Awareness on World Suicide Prevention

Awareness on World Suicide Prevention

We observe World Suicide Prevention Day each year on September 10. It’s a growing problem and the numbers tell a shocking story. Every 40 seconds someone takes their own life according to the World Health Organization (WHO). That’s about 800,000 people worldwide every year — although some estimates put that number closer to 1 million. Suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged between 15 to 29 and for every suicide that results in death, there are as many as 40 attempted suicides. What we know for sure is that there’s a lot to live for.
As a Mental Toughness Trainer, NLP Expert and Psychologist, it is all about ‘Creating Hope through Action.’ So, let’s work together with our family, friends, healthcare workers, religious and political leaders to prevent suicide through active counselling and support. It’s time we empowered others to be in charge of their lives and value the one life they have. Did you know that suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the World? It affects all age groups equally. It’s important therefore to have discussions around mental health, making it easier for others to talk about the tough times they are going through and seek professional help if necessary.
We lead busy lives and barely get time to sit and actually process our thoughts, which is a likely reason why mental health issues or underlying problems go unassessed. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), suicide is committed somewhere in the world every 40 seconds. Approximately 800,000 people die every year due to suicide. The majority of these occur in underdeveloped and developing countries. These figures are startling, considering that suicide is preventable. Undiagnosed and untreated mental illness is the biggest reason behind suicide.
As Abhimanyu was trapped in the quagmire (Chakravyuh) and could not get out of it, similarly suicide is such a no return point where the individual denies living life. There are many prominent reasons for suicidal attempt. From generation of behaviour dysfunction, dysfunction disease or disorder is created. At times it leads to suicidal attempts. Neuro Linguistic Programming or NLP can be applied to prevent suicide. It is a therapy to know the human psychology in a better way and to do the risk benefit analysis of any decision in life. Prolonged application of NLP can help in prevention of suicidal attempts. I always say ‘’The One who realizes, searches; the One who searches gets’’. So to prevent this one must introspect and search.
APPLICATION OF NLP AS A LIFE TRANSFORMATION AGENT - ACROSS ALL AGES
1. START BEFORE YOU START: Strategically plan your activities before you execute in your daily life. Fix the compass in the right direction.
2. REPATTERN YOUR MINDSET: To grow internally, change and modify your mindset. External change is the fruit of internal transformation. Once a person is transformed internally, external change and growth will be expressed automatically.
3. UNLEARN-LEARN-RELEARN: Constantly helps to reshape one's life
4. FOCUS ON YOUR PROCESS - Focusing on the process along with goals is more effective.
How NLP helps to prevent suicide-
An NLP trained person will have the mental toughness to bear the pain. In life, ups and downs are there and we have to face that everyday. As sorrow will be there happiness will also be there. So we just have to prepare ourselves and wait for the good time.
Life is all like a cricket match, you just have to understand which ball to play and which ball to leave.
